The Trader Joe’s cereal aisle is a good looking aisle. No, you won’t find Cheerios or Frosted Flakes, but you will find Joe’s O’s and…okay, their Frosted Flakes are still called Frosted Flakes, but you get the point. No name brands, just some dupes and some Trader Joe’s originals that are worth checking out if cereal is your favorite easy breakfast (or, if you’re anything like me, your favorite easy dessert).
Prior to our most recent taste test, it had been a couple of years since we last tasted and ranked Trader Joe’s cereal. To be honest, there wasn’t that much new stuff to try, but we did add one old-standby we neglected to taste in our last taste test (you’ll find it in the #6 spot).
If you’re a Trader Joe’s shopper, you probably already have your faves. But if you’re new to TJ’s or assessing the cereal aisle for the first time, allow us to guide you to the best cereal at Trader Joe’s. (Note: We’d previously ranked Nature’s Path Peanut Butter Panda Puffs, but it’s not really a Trader Joe’s cereal, so we nixed it this time around.)
- Trader Joe’s Tiny Fruity Cuties
-
Like Trix? These are a good, fruity dupe. This cereal comes in fun shapes and vibrant colors. It has that generic “fruit” flavor you know and love if you’ve ever filled your bowl with Trix, Froot Loops, or Fruity Pebbles. Personally, I think the fruit flavor is a bit much—it’s so powerful it borders on bitter—but if you’re into fruity cereal, you just may think this is the best cereal at Trader Joe’s.

- Trader Joe’s Frosted Flakes
-
Tony the Tiger’s fine ass is shaking in his little kerchief! This Trader Joe’s cereal is delicious and perfect for people who want to start the day with a sugar buzz. I love how itty-bitty the flakes are and truly appreciated the way their corn flavor melds with the sugar and the way the sugar melds with milk. Trader Joe’s Frosted Flakes will definitely be too sweet for some people, but if you’re a breakfast-for-dessert person like me, these crunchy guys will wow you.

- Trader Joe’s Frosted Shredded Bite Size Wheats
-
Frosted Mini-Wheats are delicious, but they’re for kids, right? This version of those sugary little wheat biscuits struck Sporked editor-in-chief Justine Sterling as being more grown-up then their brand-name counterpart. “This one is elegant,” she said. “I think they have more vanilla in them than classic Mini-Wheats.” The frosting flavors the milk in a pleasant way, and that makes eating a bowl of this Trader Joe’s cereal very satisfying to the last drop of milk. If a bed and breakfast served you boxed cereal, this is what they’d go with. It’s the best Trader Joe’s cereal if you want something grown-up, but still sweet and fun.

- Trader Joe’s Super Nutty Oat Clusters Cereal
-
A lot of cereal serves up spoonfuls of the same shape over and over and over—Cheerios, Froot Loops, the list goes on. But what about people who want more variety in the morning? Trader Joe’s Super Nutty Oat Clusters are for them. This box is packed with a few kinds of flakes, plus crunchy clusters of granola and whole pecans. As one taste tester said, “It has so many parts that sing together in my mouth.” On their own, the flakes are admittedly a little bland, but the clusters have a nice maple-y flavor everyone appreciated. Basically, come for the excellent texture and stay for the pleasant taste.

- Trader Joe’s Honey O’s
-
For the uninitiated, Joe’s O’s are Trader Joe’s take on Cheerios. And the honey-nut version might actually be better than Honey Nut Cheerios, aka the best Cheerios flavor of them all. These have a nice, toasty oat flavor, but the honey-sweet coating is what really seals the deal. It fills your mouth with sweetness without being gross or overpowering. This cereal has a wonderful crunch and, overall, a better flavor than the plain Joe’s O’s. If you like Honey Nut Cheerios, this is the best Trader Joe’s cereal to toss in your cart.

- Trader Joe’s Maple Pecan Clusters Cereal
-
Much like the Super Nutty Oat Clusters cereal, the best Trader Joe’s cereal is a textural bonanza. This is a year-round cereal, but it’s absolutely bursting with fall flavors. It’s the perfect breakfast to eat out on the patio on a crisp fall morning, not that we have those here in Southern California. You get nice big flakes, along with maple syrup-sweetened, pecan-studded crunchy clusters. It’s a cereal and a granola in one, which makes it both filling and highly useful. This is the best Trader Joe’s cereal to eat with either milk or yogurt. Unless you really hate maple, you will like this cereal. Promise!
