Pop-Tarts puts out a ton of new flavors. On top of wide releases like the upcoming Girl Scout Cookies-inspired Pop-Tart flavors, Walmart and Target have both had multiple exclusive new flavors in the past few years. Additionally, there’s a huge backlog of fan-favorite Pop-Tarts flavors that get re-releases. In recent months, we’ve seen the return of previously-unavailable Cinnamon Roll and Sugar Cookie flavors. And today, we’ve got our hands on the newest Pop-Tarts flavor: Lemon Blueberry Crumble.

Is this actually a new flavor of Pop-Tarts? It’s certainly a new combination of flavors! There’s no basic Lemon Pop-Tarts flavor, but Blueberry Pop-Tarts are available both frosted and unfrosted. That said, Pop-Tarts has dabbled in the field (or grove) of lemons a few different times. In the past, we’ve seen Pink Lemonade and Lemon Creme Pie flavors—the latter even got a branded re-release in collaboration with the media company Lyrical Lemonade. We’ve also seen variants on Blueberry in the past, including Blueberry Muffin and a patriotic Red, White, & Blueberry. So, these are two familiar Pop-Tart flavors coming together for the first time. But is it any good? Read on to find out.

New Pop-Tart Flavor!

Lemon Blueberry Crumble Pop-Tarts

Pros: I’m a sucker for any lemon or blueberry pastry, so this new Pop-Tart flavor is made for me. It’s a very good balance of the two fruit flavors that brings to mind much fancier pastries. The pastry is a different color than your average Pop-Tart, leaning closer to “whole wheat bread” than “white bread.” I believe there might be a recipe difference, as well, but I can’t discern exactly what that difference is. This is my favorite new Pop-Tart for the foreseeable future (aka, until that Thin Mints flavor hits shelves).

Cons: The official flavor description says the filling is “lemon blueberry,” but I’m not sure if I’d co-sign that. I know the colors on a food product don’t line up one-to-one with the flavors, but this looks like a regular blueberry Pop-Tart with a sprinkling of lemon-y sugar on top. Mind you, I’m not mad about that; I wouldn’t want the lemon tartness to overpower the blueberry sweetness. That said, if you’re expecting a celebration of lemon, I think you’re going to be disappointed.

Where can I find this new Pop-Tart flavor for myself?

While I first thought this was a Target exclusive (having found it there myself), reports online point towards this being available initially at Target but slowly expanding to other stores like Hy-Vee. Is this a formal early-access agreement between Pop-Tarts and Target a la Walmart’s Red Bull deal? Is this just a quirk of how Target manages their inventory? Who’s to say. If you’re looking for these, I’d say Target’s your best bet. Keep your eyes out for the new Milano cookie flavor while you’re there; my review of those is coming soon.
