The best bone broth is rich and savory, with a deep, umami flavor that’s both nourishing and satisfying. The broth should have a velvety texture, with just the right amount of natural collagen to add a slight, pleasant thickness. Whether sipped on its own or used as a base for soups and sauces, the best bone broth leaves you feeling revitalized, with a lingering taste that makes you crave more.
Remember when we, as a society, lost our collective marbles for bone broth? The fad felt like it lasted for approximately six months in 2014. “Doctors” started recommending the stuff, and then bone broth showed up everywhere. Everyone who was anyone was sipping it. And while the bone broth fervor quickly died down, that time certainly left its mark on us. I don’t know about you, but I’m still regularly stocking up on the stuff (and feeling healthier for it, to be honest). Not only is bone broth a cooking staple, but the best bone broth brands are even yummy enough to sip straight up. A steaming cup of well-made bone broth warms you from the inside out. If you don’t believe me, you’re not buying the right stock!
In our search for the best bone broths, we looked for a meaty flavor that’s clear, deep, and rich. Good broth tastes almost luscious. And when a bone broth is cold, it should be gelatinous. Gelatin means collagen, and collagen equals protein. Bone broth can also have seasoning, but it’s not a prerequisite. We didn’t grade these on the same scale as soup. Extra notes of lemon, turmeric, and ginger can help enhance that flavor and drinkability. But first and foremost, bone broth should be like Arby’s and have the meats. From the best chicken bone broth to the best beef bone broth, here’s the top ten from our taste tests.

- Epic Jalapeño Beef Bone Broth
-
This one may be last, but I still gladly took it home and drank it out of my yellow polka-dotted soup mug. It smells beefy and delicious, and the flavor is on point, too. It’s rich and meaty just like a homemade broth should be. Epic just makes good broth, yo. Plus, the jalapeño adds a nice extra layer of flavor. It’s also got some thyme, garlic, carrots, and celery. And, get this, there’s mushrooms listed in the ingredients. They really went for an umami-forward broth here, and that helped to make it some of the best bone broth we tasted. —Danny Palumbo

- Kettle & Fire Lemongrass Ginger Beef Bone Broth
-
Lemongrass and ginger complement the savory beef flavor of this broth in a lovely way. It’s quite citrusy, but it’s balanced enough that you can cook with it or drink it straight. Obviously, this would work well if you’re making pho, but really, you could add any type of noodle and it’s going to be great. This would make a fortified and invigorating chicken noodle soup, if you feel so inclined. Managing editor Gwynedd Stuart tasted some anise, and my palate picked up on some Thai basil flavor, too. This broth is complex, bright, and packed with 20 grams of protein. It may be in ninth place on our list of the best bone broth, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t great. —Danny Palumbo

- Fond Beef Bone Broth with Tomato, Thyme, and Garlic
-
This beef bone broth tastes intensely meaty, and the tomato helps magnify that savory flavor. Flavorwise, Fond’s broth is a little basic (I wish you could actually taste the garlic and thyme), but Fond does two things really well: beef and salt. On top of that, you don’t need much else. Personally, I prefer chicken broth to beef broth, but if you love that iron-rich taste, this is the best beef bone broth to buy. —Danny Palumbo

- Swanson Sipping Bone Broth Chicken Ginger & Turmeric
-
This one is interesting, because I think it’s more of a regular broth than a bone broth. It’s a bit on the lighter side of the bone broth spectrum, meaning that rich, umami flavor is lacking. That said, Swanson does a lot right with this—mainly, it’s refreshing as hell. The ginger and turmeric really add a lot of nuance, and it comes in a portable cup, like a sippable little coffee mug. It’s convenient, light, and has just enough protein to fill you up for at least a little while (9 grams). If I were sick, this would hit the spot. —Danny Palumbo

- Osso Good Organic Chicken Sippable Bone Broth
-
Osso Good’s bone broth has a deep, rich chicken flavor, is super gelatinous, and has 15 grams of protein per pouch. Drink this straight, or add some vegetables and aromatics to it to make an excellent chicken noodle soup. Also, you can do what I do: Add it to pasta, vegetables, rice, etc. to enhance the flavor of your meals. I love cooking with chicken broth, and this is the best bone broth for cooking if you aren’t going to make your own. It’s as gelatinous as the bone broth I make from scratch. —Danny Palumbo

- Imagine Bone Broth Chicken, Beef, & Turkey
-
This bone broth stuck with me. I didn’t even have to look at my notes to remember what it tastes like. The trifecta of chicken, beef, and turkey work together to create an excellent, savory flavor profile. The turkey really shines brightest, though. Turkey is higher in fat and richer in protein than chicken, so this tastes like good, fatty dark meat, with warm and nostalgic Thanksgiving-dinner notes. It’s the meatiest of the broths we tried, and proof that teamwork makes the dream work. —Danny Palumbo

- Zoup Beef Bone Broth
-
As you’ll see with our #1 best bone broth, Zoup knows flavor. It strikes a perfect balance, offering a fragrant, deep, beefy flavor without overwhelming your taste buds. It’s not as meaty as Zoup’s chicken bone broth, but that’s what makes it a great team player—versatile enough to elevate whatever dish you pair it with. It brings a subtle richness that’s both satisfying and sophisticated. While I know I’ll be using this to enrich my stir fries, this is also the best beef bone broth for making homemade beef gravy, too. —Ariana Losch

- Butchers by Roli Roti Organic Chicken Bone Broth
-
Boy oh boy, does this bone broth congeal. The collagen levels here are through the roof, and you can absolutely taste the difference. Butcher’s by Roli Roti is one of the most fresh, clean-tasting chicken bone broths I’ve ever tried. It only has three ingredients: water, organic chicken, and organic carrots, which gives it such a simple, clear, quality flavor. It’s not salty at all, and some might even call it boring, but this isn’t a sipping soup. Compared to the other best bone broth brands on this list, Butcher’s Chicken is much lower in sodium and calories (though it doesn’t advertise itself as such, which I find interesting). If you’re trying to be health conscious or want to cook with organic, pure ingredients, Butcher’s is the best bone broth to buy. —Ariana Losch

It’s quite roasty, with an umami richness that deepens the already bold, savory chicken flavor. It’s lower in sodium than some other brands on our list, but trust me, you won’t be reaching for the salt shaker. It has a velvety texture and goes down super smooth.
