It’s not a tough gig being Sporked’s resident Capri Sun drinker. Most of Capri Sun’s innovations are in the realm of packaging, not Capri Sun flavors. (If you hadn’t heard, you can now get Capri Sun in bottles ranging from standard juice jug to lunchbox-sized.) Every once in a while, the fine folks at Capri Sun do put out a brand new Capri Sun flavor for me to try—or in this case, two new flavors. Yes, I got my hands on Capri Sun Moon Punch and Capri Sun Summer Blast. Let’s get into these two seasonally aligned limited-edition flavors and figure out where they fit into the Hallowed Hall of Juice Pouches.
- Capri Sun Moon Punch
-
This flavor was designed to celebrate the “Blood Moon” (the most aggressively named moon to base a children’s juice drink off of, holy cow) which took place on March 14. In honor of that total lunar eclipse, the pouches feature different phases of the moon – and they glow in the dark. As a big proponent of more things glowing in the dark, I was all about this. While the Moon Punch certainly meant to be a mid-March-specific flavor, I only started seeing it in stores in early April.
Pros: I’m not sure what flavor the moon is supposed to be, but this is a very pleasant cherry flavor. The flavor is very nostalgic! Almost as if…no, it can’t be…
Cons: Y’all, this is just Wild Cherry Capri Sun in a different pouch! The very bottom of the Moon Juice pouch even says “Wild Cherry Flavored”—they’re not even hiding it. As such, I’ll be repeating the score I gave Wild Cherry in my Capri Sun ranking from last year for this shameless rerun.
- Capri Sun Summer Blast
-
This flavor really came out of nowhere. I already had a review of Moon Punch on my to-do list when I saw a post online about Capri Sun Summer Blast coming to stores. I dutifully messaged the boss to ask whether we should add this new flavor to our new Capri Sun review—only to find it at Walmart a few hours later!
Pros: Capri Sun Summer Blast is described as “Passion Fruit Mango,” which I can 100% cosign being reflected in the actual taste. As an avowed mango skeptic, I was pleased with how well the two fruits covered up each others’ weaknesses. This is definitely a summery flavor—exactly what it says on the pouch.
Cons: That said, I still don’t like mango. It’s not you, Summer Blast, it’s me. Believe it or not, this is also a rebrand of a previous Capri Sun flavor – or should I say, Capri-Sun flavor. (Fun fact, the British arm of the Capri Sun corporation uses a dash between the words.) “Capri-Sun Mango Passion” is a flavor available year-round in Great Britain. While I have a healthy American distrust of anything British, I have to admit they were onto something with this one.
Where can I find this for myself?
Per Capri Sun’s own press releases, you can expect to find these flavors at retailers including Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Kroger while supplies last.
