We cooked these frozen samosas in our handy dandy countertop oven, aka the toaster oven. We followed the instructions on the packaging and cooked them until they were golden and crispy. We enjoyed each one dry—no chutney, no raita, just straight up samosa.
What we looked for in the best frozen samosas
A lot goes into qualifying as a truly delicious frozen samosa. We considered the quality of the pastry. We were looking for flaky, crispy exteriors. We wanted the samosas to be absolutely stuffed with filling. No one wants a hollow samosa. And we wanted that filling to be savory, spiced, and delicious. You’ll see a variety of sizes and shapes on this list—and that’s okay. Just like us humans, frozen samosas are all different. Some are just like mini versions of the big fat guys you get from a restaurant, while others are slimmer, stuffed triangles.

I love saag paneer. It’s my go-to every time I order Indian food. So I had pretty high expectations of this frozen samosa. I wanted creamy paneer, I wanted savory, spiced spinach. And I got almost that. There could definitely be more paneer, but there’s a good hit of spice and the spinach is seasoned well and not too frozen spinach-y. It reminds me a bit more of a spanikopita samosa than a true saag paneer samosa. But that’s okay! If you’re looking for something a little different than the usual vegetable or chicken frozen samosas, this is the one to get.

Whole Foods’ frozen potato and pea samosas aren’t the best potato and pea samosas we tried, but they’re so good they still deserve a spot on this list. The pastry is flaky and buttery. The filling is actually spicy. And they’re big. If you want a filling samosa, these are the best frozen samosas to buy. Grab these big boys if you regularly shop at Whole Foods.

These frozen samosas are unlike any I’ve ever had before. The pastry almost seems like it’s breaded—but that means they get extra crispy in the oven or air fryer. The samosas are stuffed with good quality chicken that you can really taste, even through the spices and seasoning. The brand recommends serving these samosas with a mint raita and I agree. They definitely need some sauce. But if you want frozen chicken samosas that come close to homemade quality, these are the best frozen samosas for you.

We’ve been fans of Trader Joe’s frozen samosas for a while. They appear way up near the top of our best Trader Joe’s frozen appetizers ranking. And, after tasting them against other frozen samosas, I stand by our positive position. These mini samosas get nicely crispy in an air fryer, but the filling is really what makes them great. Each frozen samosa is stuffed with shredded chicken in a savory sauce. These may not be the most authentic samosas, but they’re the best samosas to pass around as an app with some cocktails.

Deep Potato Pea samosas were the best frozen samosas we tasted. They come the closest to the ones you get from an Indian takeout restaurant. They’re fat and round (still smaller than restaurant samosas, but the shape is similar) and they’re absolutely stuffed with a savory, spicy filling. The pastry is buttery and wonderfully crisp and thin. Whether you’re rounding out an at-home Indian feast or just in need of a flaky, filled snack, these are the best frozen samosas to buy.
