Spoiler: We strongly believe that Cherry Garcia is one of the best Ben & Jerry’s flavors, and the non dairy version is practically a dead ringer for the dairy version. You get cherry frozen dessert with dark chocolate hunks and lots of juicy pieces of cherry. It’s like a sundae in a pint. And the almond milk base really works in harmony with the cherry flavor of the non dairy ice cream. Almonds and cherries are a classic pairing. This Ben & Jerry’s non dairy flavor just makes sense!

This is a truly wild pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. You get vanilla cream with salted caramel swirls, fudge brownies, and caramel cups, all topped with a layer of chocolate ganache. My first impulse was to be like, Jesus, calm down you guys, but also I’m glad they didn’t! It’s delicious. My favorite thing about this Ben & Jerry’s ice cream is that I get the impression it’s designed to be eaten all in one sitting, otherwise the ganache is just in the way. Normalize eating an entire pint of ice cream, and try this, the best Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor for full-pint eaters.

Whenever the description on a pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream says it contains “gobs” of something, you know you’re in good hands. This is vanilla ice cream with gobs of chocolate chip cookie dough. It’s one of the best cookie dough ice creams we’ve ever had and definitely one of Ben & Jerry’s best flavors if you want something simple and classic. Personally, this one made me appreciate how good B&J’s vanilla ice cream is on its own.

This is the best Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor for die-hard chocolate lovers. The ice cream base has a powerful chocolate flavor, and the fudge brownie chunks are unreal—soft, gooey, and super chewy. If you like the edge-of-the-pan brownies, you’ll like these big brownie chunks, which are apparently made special for Ben & Jerry’s by Greyston Bakery in Yonkers, New York. I generally think straight chocolate ice cream can get a little boring if you’re eating a whole bowl, but there’s enough going on in this pint to keep things interesting to the last bite.

The peanut butter swirl tastes incredible and really makes every bite taste like rich, roasty peanut butter. And there’s just a little bit of salt in there to complement the sweetness of the vanilla oat milk dessert. Ben & Jerry really nailed their non dairy options (in fact, my mom swears the non dairy strawberry shortcake is the best, but we simply didn’t try it this time around).

Digging into a pint of Chunky Monkey made me wonder: Why the hell isn’t there more banana ice cream?? Don’t we all love a banana split? This Ben & Jerry’s flavor tastes like a banana split, minus the cherry and whipped cream: banana ice cream with fudge chunks and walnuts. Yum. The flavor of the banana ice cream is really mild and pleasant. It’s not banana Runts—it’s real banana flavor, but it also isn’t icy like fruit-filled ice creams can be. The walnuts add incredible earthy flavor that cuts the sweetness of everything else. Okay, it could maybe use some more fudge chunks, but I’m willing to let that slide because it’s one of the best Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavors based on creativity alone.

If you aren’t afraid of sweets, this is a damn treat. Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food consists of chocolate ice cream with gooey marshmallow swirls, caramel swirls, and fudge fish. I love the rich flavor of Ben & Jerry’s chocolate ice cream—and with the marshmallow swirl, it’s completely transcendent. The fudge fish are just so cute and unique, too. They taste like hot chocolate but, uh, cold. I never got into the jam band Phish, but I am into small delicious fudge fish, that’s for sure.

Whenever I buy ice cream from one of the nice dudes with those little carts on the beach, I always opt for a Good Humor Strawberry Shortcake bar. Ben & Jerry’s Strawberry Cheesecake is like a vastly improved version of that ice cream truck classic. This is a strawberry cheesecake-flavored ice cream with chunks of strawberry and a nice big swirl of graham cracker crumbs. The graham cracker pieces are small, but they’re flavorful enough that they don’t get lost amid the sweet, delicious flavor of the strawberry ice cream. You’ll even detect a little bit of saltiness just like you’d find in a well-made graham cracker pie crust. Of all the best Ben & Jerry’s flavors we tried, this one reminded me the most of a fancy ice cream, like something from Salt & Straw or Jeni’s.

Yup, a non dairy Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor ranked this high. There’s something about the way the vanilla non dairy frozen dessert, which is oat based, tastes with the cookies that’s so pleasing. The flavor reminds me a little bit of ice milk, but less icy. Truly, do not get me wrong: This is ultra creamy. And there are SO MANY cookies in here! Along with the non dairy vanilla frozen dessert you get chocolate chip cookies, chocolate sandwich cookies, and chocolate cookies swirls. This was the best Ben & Jerry’s ice cream we tried from their non dairy line. (Sorry, Mom—we’ll try Non Dairy Strawberry Cheesecake next time!)

Is there a more pleasing phrase in the English language than “toasted marshmallow ice cream?” I’m not certain there is. And, in the case of Ben & Jerry’s Gimme S’more, it tastes as good as it sounds. This s’mores-inspired ice cream, which also includes swirls of graham cracker and chocolate cookie and a generous allotment of fudge flakes, is the best Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor in my book, largely because the mix-ins are nice and small. I know plenty of people like gobs, hunks, and chunks in their ice cream, but I love how the finer grind of the cookies and chocolate chips in this ice cream makes it so you get a uniformly delicious bite every time. If you usually opt for cookies & cream ice cream at the grocery store and want to mix things up just a little, give this one a shot.

My affinity for fruit-flavored ice cream is well documented, and I firmly believe that cherry ice cream should be way, way more popular than it is. Cherry Garcia is proof positive. While Haagen-Dazs makes an excellent cherry vanilla ice cream, this Ben & Jerry’s flavor ups the ante by incorporating big, luscious chunks of tart cherry into the cherry-flavored ice cream. If you’re imagining cherry flavored as in medicine or candy, stop. This is more of a grown-up black cherry flavor, and it’s excellent. The fudge flakes add texture and dimension to the cherry flavor. Also, I love the Grateful Dead (it doesn’t get better than this live recording of “Brown Eyed Women” for my money) and appreciate a Jerry Garcia nod.

If you’re seeking out the best Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavors, you probably like an indulgent ice cream. Well, this mix of chocolate and peanut butter ice creams packed with “gobs” of peanut butter cookie dough and fudge brownies is about as indulgent as it gets. The chocolate and peanut butter ice creams are super rich and flavorful, and the peanut butter cookie dough adds a little bit of saltiness and chew. If you like the taste of Reese’s peanut butter, I think you’ll like B&J’s take on peanut butter cookie dough. “I think this would be good if you had a hard week,” I said when I tasted this, but, let’s be honest; every week has its tribulations and you always deserve a big-ass bowl of chocolate-peanut butter ice cream.
