This New Alani Nu Flavor Is Like a Strawberry Mimosa

What a good month for Alani Nu; they released a new flavor and they were just purchased for almost 2 billion dollars by the confusingly-large energy drink brand Celsius. That’s a solid list of accomplishments for the shortest month of the year.

Wait, Celsius bought Alani Nu? I couldn’t believe it either. Yes, Celsius Holdings, Inc. announced their intent to purchase Alani Nu for the total price of $1.8 billion dollars. (I guess that was easier than trying to make their own product appeal to women.) Adjusting for inflation, Alani Nu is apparently worth roughly a third of what Disney paid for a tangible percentage of pop culture when they bought Marvel in 2009. Money is fake.

But anyway, we’re not here to do a deep dive on that news. We talking about new Alani Nu flavor: Strawberry Sunrise.

Unlike the last Alani Nu release, Strawberry Sunrise is actually a new flavor… sort of. First off, in a cosmic sense, there are no new flavors. More specifically to today’s topic, Alani Nu’s new flavor is made up of two fruits that already have their own Alani Nu flavors! Per the official description (and the illustrations on the can), Strawberry Sunrise is supposed to be strawberry and orange. Alani Nu fanatics will know that Pink Slush is “Strawberry Cream Soda” and Orange Kiss is, uh, “Orange.” Both of these drinks rank very highly in my personal Alani Nu ranking, so combining the two should be a home run, right?

New Alani Nu Flavor!

Alani Nu Strawberry Sunrise

Pros: As anyone who’s had a Strawberry Mimosa knows, strawberry and orange work well together. While this drink isn’t officially Mimosa-themed or flavored, Alani Nu did release a Mimosa flavor a few years ago. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Alani Nu scientists created this new flavor with parts of that now-discontinued flavor’s formula. Strawberry Sunrise is a good attempt at balancing two very strong fruit flavors…

Cons: …but it isn’t as good as Pink Slush or Orange Kiss. Hell, I might actually prefer a mix of those two flavors together over this version. (Let me know in the comments if I should actually mix up Alani Nu Pink Kiss.) The titular strawberry flavor is stomped by the strength of the orange citrus. Don’t get me wrong, Strawberry Sunrise is good—but that’s all it is. Considering the solo strawberry and orange outings are certifiably great, this just didn’t deliver on what I was hoping for. That’s a testament to the reliable top-tier work of Alani Nu; I’m out here talking about how disappointing this drink was, and it’s still better than damn near anything their new parent company produces, in my opinion.

Where can I find this new Alani Nu flavor for myself?

Strawberry Sunrise is on shelves, y’all. Seriously, I walked into a Speedway gas station earlier this week to see nine cases of this new flavor just waiting to go home with tired young people. You’ll also find it at Target, Walmart, Kroger, and anywhere else that regularly sells Alani Nu drinks.
